WHISPERS

Whispers of childhood
I sometimes recall
the rage of my parents
heard through my wall

Child as a pawn
heart filled with dread
of the next day and
night in that bed

I knew he would go
only not when
Morning would come
it would be then

Try not to cry
be a big kid
Momma said so
that's what I did

Time would pass
there he'd be
like nothing had died
it was only me

Again in my bed
Again through the wall
Again angry voices
Again start to call

And Again

Dark of night
hearing him go
it's my fault
Momma said so

"Cracks in the sidewalk"
Souls passing by each
other in the streets.
kicking the dust at your feet you wonder
about knowing.
Hats in harms way take pride in
walking past you, stopping
you first to glance.
More than glance. give you That
long once over. Til you
skip and step and miss
the rose in the sidewalk.

Linda  Woolven

Undertones

Undertones:

the subtle

silent

put downs,

tuned into

the listening ear.

It is not

with words

we wound,

it is with

the silencer:

the sarcastic

shape of our intent.

Teardrop Mist

Breaths of warm wine and swallows of crying cure,

In melancholy will and real wonder,

A tempest in conscious persuasions of

Desire, in consuming silent ash and fires

Of amber flame, a rare cache

Of scarlet teardrop mist, an elaborate

Cloak of gossamer and

Delicate muse.
